CALIBRE™ Polycarbonate Resins are used for a wide spectrum of single- and multiple-use medical device applications that require biocompatibility test according to ISO 10993 and/or USP Class VI standards.  Within this product family are the CALIBRE™ MEGARAD™ Polycarbonate Resins, which are specifically designed to reduce colour shift following gamma or e-beam radiation.

EMERGE™ Advanced Resins are used to manufacture medical enclosures due to their advanced properties, which include excellent durability, as well as high melt flow and aesthetic appeal. In order to meet the critical needs of the specific  applications in medical housings there are qualities of  PC/PET blend, as well as PC/ABS blend available.

MAGNUM™ ABS Resins (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) are used for a variety of applications in medical devices. MAGNUM™ ABS 8391 MED combines an excellent glossy appearance with high flow and good impact performance. Medical devices made of MAGNUM™  can be sterilized by gamma radiation, ETO gas, and e-beam radiation. Steam autoclave is not recommended.

STYRON™ 2678 MED is a general purpose Polystyrene Resin (GPPS). This high flow injection moulding grade can be used for medical applications like petri dishes, pipettes as well as packaging items and housings. The biocompatibility has been tested according to ISO 10993 standards, and the material complies with European and United States food contact regulations.

Applications

The IPC family of compounded medical grades have applications across the industry, in Catheters, Stent, Balloon, and Angioplasty procedures - all materials are supplied with a comprehensive set of test data documentation, and test bars, allowing further customer analysis.

Product Range

Our range of polymers includes compounds based on Pebax, Rilsan, Grilamid, Grilflex, Vestamid, Marlex, Surlyn, Texin, amongst many others. Additives such as TI02, BAS04 are compounded into the materials with an accuracy of 0.2% to ensure dispersion criteria and customer specifications are met. The materials are typically packed in vacuum foil bag format, enclosed in an individual outer carton for protection.

PEBAX® MED Resins are extensively used in the medical industry, particularly in medical delivery catheters. Due to their intrinsic flexibility (no plasticizers), good touch feel, excellent processability, superior torque transference, resistance to softening in the body, Pebax® MED Resin makes an excellent choice for the medical instrument field. Produced from castor oil, RILSAN® MED PA11 is a polymer of 100% renewable origin. The unique balance of properties with processability of Rilsan® polyamides make it a material of choice for many medical applications, including catheters and tubing hubs.

RILSAMID® MED PA 12 is a high-performance polyamide continuously developed by Arkema for more than 40 years. Rilsamid® presents hypoallergenic, flexibility, high burst strength and inertness properties allowing many applications in Medical sectors, including hypodermic syringes and catheters.

TOPAS® Cyclic Olefin Copolymers (COC) are a new class of polymers with a property profile which can be varied over a wide range. In contrast to the semi- crystalline polyolefins PE and PP, Topas are amorphous, transparent copolymers.

The unique property profile of these copolymers include among others:

  • Low density
  • High transparency
  • Excellent water vapour barrier properties
  • Low water absorption
  • High rigidity, strength, and hardness
  • Low birefringence
  • Variable heat deflection temperature  (HDT/B) up to 170°C
  • Excellent biocompatibility
  • Very good resistance to acids and alkalis


Thus Topas® copolymers are of particular interest for primary packaging of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostic disposables.

Topas grades can be sterilized by gamma rays as well as electron beams and ethylene oxide. The steam sterilization can be possible for Topas grades with corresponding higher softening point. Where the article is sterilized more than once, ETO or gamma sterilization is recommended.
